Meet Mary McGoldrick, MS, RN, CRNI®, FAAN
Mary McGoldrick has been a Home Care and Hospice Consultant for Home Health Systems, Inc. since 1989. A pioneer in infection prevention and control in home care and hospice for over 25 years, her seminal works have been published in the field of infection prevention and control in the home health, home care, and hospice settings.
Background
Mary began her home care career as a home health aide more than 40 years ago. Since that time, she has served in a myriad of home care clinical, management, and executive-level positions, including as a hospice volunteer. Additionally, she served as a home care and hospice surveyor for The Joint Commission for 12 years and as an adjunct professor for five years at Mercer University’s Graduate School of Business and Economics in Atlanta, GA.
In October 2021, Mary was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing for developing the infection prevention and control guidelines and standards from which home health care and hospice providers practice and are used by state regulators, accrediting bodies, professional associations, and researchers worldwide. These guidelines were originally published in the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology’s (APIC) Infection Control in Home Care and Hospice book and updated in the second edition. Mary has continued to update the guidelines in the Home Care Infection Prevention and Control Program manual. Ms. McGoldrick has also published other books, chapters, and numerous journal articles on the topic. For the Infusion Nurses Society (INS), Mary was the author of the “Infection Prevention and Control” chapters in the textbook Infusion Nursing: An Evidence-Based Approach and the Core Curriculum for Infusion Nursing 4th edition, and also a co-author of the 2016 Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice.
As a joint CDC HICPAC and APIC committee member, Mary collaborated on the first set of infection surveillance definitions for home health and home hospice providers. In addition, she served on committees for The Joint Commission and CHAP to update their infection prevention and control accreditation standards, which have been implemented by home care providers throughout the United States. Mary is a frequently invited speaker on infection prevention and control topics and has provided education to tens of thousands of home care and hospice providers nationally and internationally. Mary is considered a “go-to” expert for education and support for in-home infection prevention and control-related topics.
